"Shorty's Ghost" Set Requirements
"Shorty's Ghost" can be staged as simply or abstractly as you wish. The
premiere production was staged on a black platform in front of black
curtains using two oversized set of steps manipulated as
follows:
To simulate two cars racing side by side, the blocks were
placed side by side. A bench behind the right "car" allowed Mary and Julie
to "hide in the back seat."
To simulate a room in Tena and Julie's house where the kids
could hang out, the blocks were placed facing one another to create
various lounging levels.
To simulate the swamp, one block was turned on its side as if
it were shrubberly the kids could hide behind.
To simulate a farmyard down the road, the blocks were removed
from the stage.
To simulate the pastor's office,, a desk and coat rack were
brought on.
