- The Annual Premed Day at the UM Twin Cities is a great way to learn about premed preparation in general, and the UM Duluth and Twin Cities programs in particular. The event is on Saturday, April 4, and advance registration is required (this fills up quickly!) - click here for details and registration.
- The Office of Admissions at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School invites you to apply for the Summer Clinical Internship Program for undergraduates and post-baccalaureate students interested in careers in medicine.
- Minnesota's Future Doctors is a program that you might want to look into. The mission of this group is to "recruit and prepare highly qualified, minority, immigrant, rural, first generation college, and economically disadvantaged college freshmen for medical school".
- The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) is a FREE six week summer academic enrichment program for freshman and sophomore college students who are interested in a career in medicine or dentistry. SMDEP is implemented at 12 sites across the nation, and all programs provide a basic science curriculum, career development activities, clinical exposure and a financial planning workshop.
- The National Institutes of Health is offering the Undergraduate Scholarship Program for Individuals from Disadvantaged Backgrounds, with up to $20,000 per year in support. Click here for details.
- The
Health Careers Center at the Twin Cities campus offers lots of of programs and workshops for premed
and other pre-health students. Advanced registration is
required for most events.
- The American Osteopathic Association would
like you to know a little bit more about them. There has been about a 100% increase
in the number of practicing Doctors of Osteopathy in Minnesota in the last ten
years. You can also check out the Minnesota Osteopathic
Medical Society.
- The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation Summer Research Internship Program looks like an excellent opportunity. They are seeking a diverse pool of interns based on a combination of demonstrated academic performance, leadership, and career aspirations in the field of cardiology and/or research. Internships are open to undergraduate students in various health care disciplines. Internships will be full-time, 10-12 weeks in duration, and offer a modest stipend of $8 per hour and paid parking. All internships will be on the campus of Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Application deadline March 2nd.
- Applications are now being accepted for the Equity Summer Research Program at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. This program was designed to provide laboratory research experience to promising students from populations historically underrepresented in science and medicine or who have experienced educational, economic, or other disadvantages.
