Admissions Statistics
Admission to medical school is extremely competitive. For the UM-Twin Cities program, the average undergraduate GPA of entering students is typically above 3.7, and the average MCAT total score close to 32.
You probably have the best chance of getting into the state supported school of your homestate: this means the UM Twin Cities or Duluth medical schools for Minnesota residents. In general, it is much more difficult for nonresidents to be admitted to a state supported school.
Students who come to UMM and get good grades have a very good chance of being accepted to medical school. You'll note, however, that some students with good grades (and usually high MCAT scores) were not accepted: in most cases, this was because they did not get enough extra-academic experience in a patient-care setting. This experience is critical - you can't get into medical school without it!
The following are 7-year statistics (2003-2009) for recent UMM graduates (Note: these numbers apply only to applications to United States MD programs. Results for overseas medical schools and DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) schools are not included.)
