Angel with Heart Shield. 1981.
Bronze, height 9" with base - Collection Arie Ron Meisel

Angel with Heart Shield is Audrey Flack's first work of sculpture. The work shows a seated child and is reminiscent of Cupid or Eros (Gouma-Peterson 104).

This work is interesting because it differs so much from other works of sculpture by Flack. The subject is a child instead of a woman, and it does not include the goddess-centered themes of later works. Angel with Heart Shield does, however, exude an innocence that are is found in some of Flack's early portraits, particularly those of her daughters done in the 1970's.
