Geol 2101: Mineralogy and Crystallography

During this class, we will take one weekend field trip to the Lake Superior North Shore. We will study the bedrock geology northeastern Minnesota, including Archean rocks of the southern Superior Province, Early Proterozoic rocks of the Animikie Basin (Thomson Formation, Rove Formation, Gunflint Iron Formation), and Middle Proterozoic rocks of the Midcontinent Rift system (Duluth Complex, Beaver Bay Complex, North Shore Volcanic Group). The trip begins near Jay Cooke State Park and ends up at the Trails End campground at the end of the Gunflint Trail.
